Blinker hole Squadron Pro
Like most of them, our Jeep originally suffered from inadequate lighting. Any excuse to upgrade, right? Thanks to some awesome JW Speaker J3 Headlights, the turn signals are now incorporated into the headlights themselves. This allowed us to repurpose the turn signal holes for something way more fun! Baja Designs Squadron R-Pro lights are almost exactly the right size for this, and they produce an enormous amount of light. Naturally, this would be our first choice. With a little creativity, we knew we could make it happen.
Mounting the lights
To secure the lights, we designed a few aluminum rings that fit behind the face plate and around the body of each light closely. These rings slide tightly into the stock blinker holes, allowing the whole assembly to center perfectly. In order to offer adjustment for these rather directional spot pattern lights, we cut some banana-shaped shims to offer any adjustment needed in roughly 1° increments. Some larger aluminum rings distribute the clamping load across the back of the grill, and a set of aluminum angle brackets with screws offer the necessary clamping pressure to hold the entire assembly together. Here are all the parts we made:

Here you can see a pair of shims in-between the adapter rings to create a 2° adjustment in light angle. This was perfect to aim the lights to the appropriate hight.

We used SendCutSend to laser cut all the flat aluminum, and the parts arrived in less than a week. The brackets were cut from aluminum angle, drilled to fit the Squadron Pro lights, and finally got some Riv-Nuts to accommodate clamping screws. We ground points on the clamping screws to center in dimples we drilled in the load distribution plates. This worked out perfectly and the lights are VERY secure in the grill with no looseness or vibration. We then finished up by wiring the lights to our modified sPod BantamX controller.

Here you can see everything assembled. We had to trim much of the original blinker mount plastic to get them to fit, but were able to keep the clip. The Squadron pro lights just barely fit as there are body mounts for the radiator support in the immediate area.

How we like them
We've had these installed for a little while now, and we LOVE this mod! These lights augment all our Amber wider cornering lights, side lights, upgraded fog lights, and great headlights. With all the other lighting on the Jeep, we wanted a little more long-range punch, and these did the trick perfectly. At some point, we'll get the light output properly photographed, but until then, here's a link to 2:54 into a video where we used the lights to cover some ground East of Mt. Shasta at night.
To be transparent as possible, I want to add that we bought these lights retail through an authorized reseller. Also, we will earn some commission if you buy through one of our provided links. Would you make and sell the blinker hole brackets? I need a set for my 2014 JK so I can run the Baja Designs IR lights.
I might consider that if there is enough interest. The laser cut parts are very easy for me to duplicate, but the angle brackets were cut out by hand with the grill off the Jeep. If there was demand, I’d likely do a CAD design for those as well so they could be laser cut from square tube, but this requires having lights/grill off a Jeep to develop the design properly. This would be a clever discrete way to mount IR lights properly on a JK.
